Trump's stance on a CNN town hall with Scalise is not a concern

Pence closes door to testifying before ‘partisan’ Jan. 6 Committee; Trump: I never said I wanted to run for president – The Hill (CNN) The head of the National Republican Congressional Committee urged GOP leaders to hold off on scheduling Chairman @RonnaMcDaniel into a high-dollar, weeklong town hall Tuesday.

“I am confident that Chairman Ronna McDaniel will continue to do the absolute best job she can,” House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in a statement. “The NRCC is doing everything it can to schedule a meaningful event for Chairman McDaniel, and we hope to be able to add an in-person forum with Chairman McDaniel to the weeklong schedule as soon as possible.”

“However, since Chairman McDaniel has indicated she would prefer a town hall forum, we are going to hold the town hall date on January 6,” McCarthy said.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Monday said that “no, really” she would not attend a CNN town hall with President Donald Trump.

“I’m not going to go,” Pelosi told reporters on Monday. “I’ll see what becomes of that.”

McCarthy and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) have said they would be available for any future Trump town halls.

“It is just about being available for those other opportunities,” Scalise said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “I’m a big fan of Ronna McDaniel; I think she’ll do a great job. I hope she does, but you never know about a town hall.”

“We’re getting close. We’ll see where we go,” Scalise told CNN in a separate interview Tuesday. “I’m going to be available to her. I’m going to be there for her town hall opportunity.”

Trump last week said that, if it were possible, he would prefer a town hall with Scalise, who has had a turbulent relationship with Pelosi throughout his time in Congress and the White House.

“If we can do one, let’s do one, because they would be great,” Trump said of Scalise and McCarthy. “I’d love to do them because they’re Republicans, I like ’em, I believe them,
